Dessert Camping Recipes

Yummy Peach Cobbler

2 quarts peaches (drained)
1/2 cube butter, chopped over peaches
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup sugar

Begin by putting peaches into a greased Dutch oven. Chop the butter in small pieces and dot over the peaches. Mix the flour, cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle half over the peaches.

For the crust mix:

2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup oil
6 Tbsp milk
2 eggs
4 Tbsp sugar

Drop crust mixture on top of peaches. Sprinkle the remaining spiced sugar over the dough. This is one of our easy camping recipes that will work great at home, as well as a tasty addition to your camping food.

Bake with 1 ring of coals underneath and 2 rings of coals on the lid for 30-35 minutes.

Apple Crisp

You will need 12 inch Dutch oven for this recipe that serves 8

6 Granny Smith apples (5-6 cups)                     1 & 1/3 cups flour, sifted
1 cup sugar                                                       1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 Tbsp flour                                                      1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg                                                    pinch of baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon                                     pinch of salt
2 tsp butter                                                       ½ cup butter, cold

Pare and slice up all the apples. Toss them into a bowl with the next four ingredients below the apples. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and cut in the cold butter using two knives or a pastry blender.

Preheat Dutch oven in fire pit for about 10 minutes. Pour the apple mixture into the Dutch oven. Dot the mixture with blobs of butter. Pour the dry mixture over the top of the apples and press down slightly.

Place Dutch oven in the pit. If using briquets for a 12 inch oven, place 12 of them on the bottom, and 30 on the lid. If using a 10 inch oven, reduce the coals by 30 to 40%.

Cook until done or lightly browned (approximately 45 minutes). Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if available.
